Chronicles

The twelve volumes of the Chronicles contain much historic content but should not be regarded as rigorous histories, having been written to entertain, concentrating on social activities, and containing some historic errors. They cover the years from the earliest activity that led to the Society’s institution in 1839 until the close of session 1983-1984, material after that time being subject to data protection issues.

The earliest volume was published in 1890 and has had an historic commentary and index added for on-line uploading. It was generally unavailable by the time that the next volume was prepared in the early 1920s and the material for the years until 1890 was abridged and repeated in the new edition. However, some important content was lost in this process and serious students are recommended to use the 1890 version.

The first ten volumes are scanned from hard copy publications and the final two are available only on-line.
